05 Jan Elite Nationals: Georgia Catterick Powers To U23 TT Gold
I am over the moon to have taken the under 23 New Zealand National Time Trial Title. After missing out last year by 3 seconds it felt pretty special to put the NZ jersey on. Last year wasn’t a great year for my family with a very close loved one passing away, my Grandmum. It was hard getting back into training after that but it also made me realise how life is so short and I wanted to win a jersey for her.
However I knew it wouldn’t be easy as I have seen Mikayla racing so well all of 2018 in Team Illuminate, and knew Libby would also give everyone a run for there money after breaking the Junior women pursuit record. But I also like to set the standard high for myself and wanted to be in contention for the Elite Title. So I was pretty happy to get 3rd overall.
I made myself pull back at the start of the time trial to make it feel easy while I got into a good pace. It was very windy around 45k an hour I heard so I decided to change to a smaller wheel – just a Roval 40 on the front. I felt like I road the same pace around the course, until the last climb where I wanted to crawl up. I was about to hit a wall but I heard my dad yelling at me to get up and go harder. So I got out of my seat and gave everything I had left over the top and thankfully I could rest on the wee down hill before the last couple of km’s before the finish.
As I crossed the finish line I was pretty happy to see just over thirty minutes on my clock, over a minute faster what i rode the year before.
2018 has started pretty good and I am looking forward to teaming up and chasing some good results with the Mike Greer Womens Team and Team Illuminate.
