Elite Nationals: Grace Anderson Takes The U23 Road Race Win

I couldn’t be happier to win the U23 road race at Elite Nationals.

As always the Napier course delivered a tough race and once again it proved to be a battle of survival. Knowing this I tried to save my legs during the earlier stages of the race. Getting a puncture down one of the hills in the rural circuit definitely made me a bit nervous but after a quick wheel change and a solid motor pace back on by Patrick I was able to rejoin the group not having used too much energy.

Coming back into town was where the winning move was made by Georgia Williams in the cross winds and she produced an amazing ride to win overall by 5mins. Mikayla did an awesome job putting the pace on in the city circuit and I played the waiting game. This worked in my favour with the bunch dwindling down to Deborah Paine, Kate Mcilroy, Kirsty McCallum and Sharlotte Lucas in the end.

I managed to outsprint Deborah and finish just behind Sharlotte to get the U23 title.

This result is definitely a reflection of the awesome people I have around me from my team (Both MGHWC and Team Illuminate), to mechanic (Ben Marshall), to coach (Aaron Strong) and parents.

I am absolutely thrilled to be able to win the jersey for Team Illuminate going into the 2018 season.
