Amelia Packed With Potential And Ready To Take Her Cycling to the Next Level In 2019

Amelia Matthews is a First Year U23 rider in 2019 with huge potential and a rider MGHWCT have been closely watching over the last year. Amelia has been immersed within the Dioceson School for Girls cycling team for the last 5 years with some great results in schools racing including a win in the ITT and Hill Climb at The Southern Schools Tour, 2nd in the National ITT and 3rd in the National Hill Climb in 2018

Although light on experience outside of schools racing it is obvious that Amelia has great potential. Her strong results in timed events is very promising and something team manager Patrick looks at when recruiting riders “We are always looking at riders with potential and riders who will benefit being involved in a well organised team environment which focuses on growing riders ability on and off the bike. Amelia obviously has talent and strength as can be seen by her results and we believe by exposure to higher levels of racing within a well drilled team with a great leadership structure and with riders eager to support their younger riders that Amelia will go from strength to strength”.

“We realise that next year will be a big step up for Amelia but she is keen for the challenge and has a great support network around her, a great coach and vey supportive parents”.

MGHWCT have always embraced involvement from parents and coaches within their team environment as they see this can only help the on going development of their riders. “Lets face it, we have a limited budget so any help we can get is appreciated” says Harvey. “To get this far riders must have had a hugely supportive group involved so why take this away – instead we embrace it!”

Amelia has definitely been stepping things up in the last 6 months with more racing at an Elite level and some great racing experiences as part of her current North Island Development team that has been great in helping further develop Amelia’s potential. The Team are excited to see the improvements Amelia can make during 2019 and see her power and strength as another arrow in the team’s quiver.

Amelia will be joining Mike Greer Homes Womens cycling team in February but will be attending the team camp during December.
