Jamieson Keen To Share Her Knowledge And Nurture Young Riders

Amanda Jamieson was a foundation rider for our team in our first 3 years bringing some fantastic results for us in our early years and playing a big part in helping the team gain recognition and exposure. For the team and for Amanda her win at the inaugural U23 Elite Womens Championship in Napier in 2017 was definitely a highlight showing the guts and determination it takes to make a champion. Amanda has then taken on the European racing scene head on based in the Netherlands for the past two years with Maaslandster International Womens Cycling Team.

As a young women taking on the European racing scene and weather is no easy feat and Amanda has had more than her share of challenges and obstacles to face during this time. The resilience and fortitude Amanda showed and her determination to follow her dream no matter what is definitely one of the reasons why we wanted Amanda as part of our foundation #MentorToSucceed program.

Team manager Patrick Harvey believes seeing Amanda’s growth and natural mentoring skills in action at the Womens Sun Tour early this year was a spark that ignited the idea behind the #MentorToSucceed program “Seeing Amanda work with and motivate the younger riders in her National Team and our MGHCT at the Jayco Womens Sun Tour was a revelation! This race for our U19s was a huge and the weather conditions and off the bike issues facing the team was challenging. Seeing Amanda take charge and guide and mentor our younger riders was fantastic to see. Amanda had obviously learnt from her own experience overseas and was helping our young riders cope with the pressures and stresses involved with competing in a big race overseas. This was priceless and helped produce such a positive experience for the younger riders.”

From that point on the team knew they would do all they could to involve Amanda back in MGHWCT for 2019. With the introduction of the #MentorToSucceed program and with the MGHWCT European campaign base likely to be the same location as Amanda’s European team MEXX-Watersley International Women’s Cycling Team, the scene was set for Amanda to join the team and become a #MentorToSucceed mentor.

Amanda is super excited with our program and hopes to provide valuable support, guidance and motivation to our up and coming riders “As cyclists we all end up taking different paths while striving for a similar goal. So having approachable mentors that can provide guidance, support and motivation to up and coming cyclists is a game changer. I’m privileged to be working alongside MGH as part of their Mentor to succeed program.”

Like us Amanda wants womens cycling in NZ to grow and flourish and the time is ripe for this “I’ve come along way since I first made my solo journey across to Europe 3 years ago, having had my fair share of ups & downs along the way. It’s great I am now able to speak to a wider audience about my experiences and provide insight as to what I have learnt through out these past years.”

Having approachable mentors sharing their experiences and guiding our young riders in NZ is invaluable and we can’t wait to work alongside Amanda to help her own journey and those of the riders she is working with.

Bring on 2019!
