13 Jan National Elite Road Race: Emma Smith
My first Elite nationals was definitely an experience like no other race I have done before!
The atmosphere of the race and from the supporters was so awesome. I’ve never been in a race with so much hype and support, with people cheering on the sides of the road which gave you more motivation and push to get up those climbs (especially hospital hill).
It was pretty cool racing against the best women in NZ, along side some who are in pro teams and race overseas which lifted the level of racing and added to the toughness of the race.
I really loved the course that Napier had to offer with a rolly circuit that tested us as athletes.
A highlight was definitely seeing my team mates get up the road and Georgia taking the solo win!
Despite not having the best day on the bike I was still really happy that I was determined to finish the race and didn’t give up, completing my first ever elites. I’m ready to come back better and stronger next year!
