Intelligentsia Cup Podium On Day 4 – Stella Nightingale

The first three days of the Intelligentsia Cup were a steep learning curve for me. After failing rollout day 1, two DNF’s, struggling to find rides to the races, and a hearty heatwave to top it all off I was happy to even be lining up for day 4.

I’d planned to save my legs for the rest of the week. The course was dead flat and very windy – conditions I usually find less than ideal. However as the pace in the bunch got very relaxed I grew restless. On a speedy bit of tailwind I put in a cheeky high cadence (thanks to the good old junior gears – no more failing rollout) effort and found myself in no mans land chasing a lone leader out the front of the race. After the hectic start to the week I’ve been trying to adopt a go with the flow attitude so I realised I might as well go with this too and put my head down. I eventually caught the leader and we worked together till the finish where she pipped me in the sprint.

Podium Time

Thanks to everyone who’s been helping me out so far! Bike racing is not a task you can take on alone and I literally would not have made it to the start line if it wasn’t for the help of many generous people.

Not quite halfway through the racing I’m looking forward to what the rest of the week has in store.
