Torelli Collaboration in 2022

We are excited to announce that we will be collaborating with UK based women’s cycling team Torelli Assure Cayman Islands Scimitar from 2022 and onwards.

Team manager Tony Orrell has been developing young UK and overseas riders for years with huge success including young kiwi riding sensation Niamh Fisher-Black.

With racing programs in UK, Europe and Asia, Torelli has provided the racing experience and learning opportunities that allow riders to step up to the next level of professional racing. The knowledge and experience that Tony brings to the riders is invaluable and he does it in a fun environment where learning to race as a team and learn is the key.

With women’s cycling going from strength to strength in recent years so is Torelli. They will be stepping up to the UCI level in 2022 to enable the continued access to great racing opportunities.

For Niamh Fisher-Black working with Tony Orrell and Torelli in 2019 was a big part of her success as a first year U23 combined with Mike Greer Homes Womens Team that lead to her signing her first professional contract with Bigla at the end of that year.

For our kiwi riders with limited racing down under this is a vital next step in their careers and we know they will bring a lot of kiwi grit, determination and strength to the team in 2022.

Our two riders who will be joining Torelli have been working extremely hard in 2021 to prepare for our summer racing season and have been going from strength to strength on and off the bike. They are leaders within the team and both show maturity and resiliency and are ready to take on the challenge of racing overseas.

Lee Boon has plenty of racing experience and great results as a junior and has been working hard to finish her degree. Lee has made huge gains this year since finishing just outside the podium in the TT at Elite U23 Nationals and is itching to get to Europe and further her cycling career.

I am so grateful and excited for the opportunity to be riding for Torelli Assure Cayman Islands Scimitar next year. It has always been a goal of mine to race overseas and I can’t wait for this next step. I am looking forward to all of the challenges and learnings to come from training and racing overseas.

Kim is a relative new comer to the sport but is already making waves domestically and has a massive aerobic engine destined to be a strength in any team with her determination to learn and ability to suffer making up for lack of experience.

I am so excited to be a part of the Torelli Assure Cayman Islands Scimitar in 2022 and have the opportunity to race in Europe. It has been a hard year for road cycling in New Zealand with many cancelled events. My coaches Patrick and Tammy have been working extremely hard to develop a pathway for NZ women in road cycling and I’m very privileged to be part of this. I can’t wait to get over to the UK and work with Tony and the Torelli team to improve my cycling experience. But for now I will be getting in as much NZ racing as I can for Black Magic ilabb to pave the way for this big transition.

They are both super excited about this opportunity and although we will miss them on the team they both hope to shake up the racing for us until they leave after Elite Nationals in Feb.

We really look forward to see this relationship grow and hope we can add back by providing racing and training opportunities back the other way in our summer for Torelli riders too! Our home base in Wanaka is not a bad place to visit in our summer and hopefully the Aussie racing will be back into full swing again soon too!

So although 2021 has been a tough year and we continue to face race cancellations, the future looks bright for our young riders that put in the hard yards, motivate each other, shift their goals and continue to chase their dreams.
