I am a 20-year-old cyclist from New Plymouth and have been based in the Waikato for the past 2 and a half years to pursue cycling and go to university. Like all young kiwi cyclists, I have always dreamt of making it to Europe to race against my idols, and I know that BMWC will help me learn the skills needed to step up to this level. Over the years, I have watched talented riders from BMWC step into the professional league overseas and I hope to follow this transition.
Along with cycling, I am also a full-time student at the University of Waikato where I am studying at Bachelor of Science, majoring in Environmental Science. I am in the third year of my degree and will be graduating in 2022.
I am really looking forward to racing with BMWC for the team atmosphere. Our team is made up of a diverse set of strengths and I cannot wait to start working together in races. Learning to race together and ride for other riders is a valuable skill, and I am so excited to have the opportunity to try out team tactics at our upcoming races.
My goal for the future is to ride for a professional women’s cycling team and race in Europe and America. I would love to race against my idols in La Course, Giro Rosa, Paris Roubaix Femmes, and other famous tours and classics. With women’s cycling becoming more recognised, it is a very exciting time to be making the huge step into this professional scene in the future.
I have grown up watching the likes of Annamiek van Vleuten, Anna van der Breggen, and Marianne Vos dominate the world stage, but the most inspirational riders to me are Mikayla Harvey and Niamh Fisher-Black. With many Best Young Rider jerseys between them and professional contracts overseas, it is so inspiring to see young riders from New Zealand handle the professional league so remarkably.
