Ava Maddison

I started cycling in year 9 at Epsom Girls Grammar School, and have loved the sport ever since. I started as a surf life saving athlete and swimmer of 11 years but moved more into cycling in high school. I’m now in my final year of high school and loving riding more than ever.

I wanted to race with BMWC because I believe it’s important to encourage young women to ride and race more in cycling and BMWC is the perfect way to thrive as a young athlete.

My biggest goal I want to achieve while in the team is learning how to work together as a unit to achieve highly for not only myself but the team. Ultimately I want to race overseas with a team and face new experiences racing out of NZ.

Seeing other female cyclists such as Mikayala Harvey, Michaela Drummond and Kim Cadzow achieve so highly and pursue their dreams inspires me to train hard, race hard and push myself to new limits.

My best results have been winning both the North Island and Nationals schools road race, 1st in both the NI TTT and criterium, 1st overall at Northern tour and 4th in the ITT at Elite road nationals.

As a first year u19 I really want to challenge myself and explore my potential as an athlete, I’m excited to get stuck into racing in Oceanias and Europe and see where it takes me.
