Burst Erpe-Mere 1.15 Nat A

Awesome outing at our first Elite / U23 Kermesse with a 85.2km circuit race in Belgium!

With 124 riders on the start line, the pace was on front the get go!! Lots of strong girls and teams with our lil Kiwi girls riding incredibly well.

All the girls were well positioned from the start and had the right intent to be at the front amongst the action.

Although flat, the course had some critical technical sections and crunch points and a nasty wind to keep everyone on their toes.

Ruby had an outstanding race finishing 11th and in the front group sprinting for the win and was 3rd junior showing her tenacity and fast improving positioning and bunch skills. To be racing at this level only a few weeks into our European trip is nothing short of stunning. Putting the level of this race into perspective the first junior finished 12th in the World Champs last year in Wollongong! She positioned well and ensured she hung in and even gave the sprint a crack after 85km of racing against the open ladies.

Maia also had another cracker, showing her podium last week was not a once off. Like Ruby she was well positioned throughout, alongside Ruby for most of the race only slipping off the front group with a few laps to go. This week Maia took on the role of Road Captain and she really stepped up in this role helping out her teamies throughout the race.

Lola stepped it up big time this week mixing it up in the front bunch and was right in there in the mix for well over halfway and really found her feet this weekend! Nice one Lola the improvement from the last race was huge.

As always Ava was 100% in from the start getting amongst the action fighting hard and finding her positioning in the fast-charging ad forever moving peloton. We loved seeing her fight in the second group to stay in contention, unfortunately it seems once dropped the other riders lose motivation but we love our kiwis to keep charging till the end. Staying in the front group for the first 1/3 of the race was a huge accomplishment.

Tough day for Tiree but lots of valuable learning lessons and really impressed to see her reflecting positively after the race. Plenty more racing to come for Tiree

More technical woes for Muireann who suffered a mechanical issue early in the race. She will be determined more than ever to have a great race tomorrow with her Watersley team as she has some good legs and once again showed her mastery of the bunch.
